Balvenie Castle

The ruins of Balvenie Castle overlook Glenfiddich; we walk there next. It was built in the 12th century, and was last used in 1726, as a troop garrison. We arrive just as it is closing, but the attendant lets us in to look around. Many of the areas are still recognizable by function: the well, the kitchen, the bakery, and the brewery.
